Soccer Mom Committee Meeting Minutes

Date: October 23, 2007

The meeting was opened with a review of the Mission and Norms of the BLAST as follows:

Our Leagues are about the game and enjoyment of the game.  Actions and behaviors that are contrary to this objective WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

As a League, Soccer Mom Captains are responsible for the integrity of the game and the league.  Enforcement and adherence to the BLAST Mission and Norms is the responsibility of the Captains.   Each Team representative at the committee meeting agreed to bear this responsibility.

-          Beth Quinton was introduced as the new Soccer Mom league coordinator, replacing Rene’ Murray.  She is employed full time at the Blast as bookkeeper/admin.  Beth is also usually present on Friday nights working as duty manager.  She can be contacted at Admin@theBlast.net.

-          Winter I session for Soccer Moms begins on November 9th with the registration deadline falling on October 30th.  The fee remains unchanged at 695.00 per team.

-          The possibility of switching back to 3 divisions was discussed.  As the league stands, the number of divisions will remain at 4.

-          All of the ten teams represented at the meeting will be automatically registered for the Winter I Session.  There will be some division realignment as a few of the current div. 4 teams have agreed/requested to move up.  Please include your division when you register for the Winter I session.

-          Effective Winter I, along with payment in full and completed roster, it was agreed that each team bring a photocopy of each player’s driver’s license in order to resolve the issue of underage players.  This is the captain’s responsibility. We must stress again that each player is responsible for having her driver’s license with her.  For the remainder of the current session, if a player is asked for proof of age and she is unable to produce it, she will be asked to leave the field.  When questioned, either the ref or the duty manager must confirm the player’s eligibility.

-         Rumors were addressed concerning the sale of the Blast building.  The Blast plans on remaining in this building through the winter.  The eventual move is planned to be to Leader Health & Fitness on South George Street near Leader Heights Road.  It is expected that play will continue uninterrupted during the move.

-         It was decided that the referees need to be more mindful in enforcing the rules.  They will be asked to make more calls concerning unsportsmanlike conduct, i.e. overly rough play, abusive language, etc…The refs will also be asked to remind all players at the start of each game of the Blast norms as stated above.  It has always been Blast policy that the referee has the final word.  Carding and ejections will be at the referee’s discretion.

-         Due to the continuing problem of inappropriate substitutions, the new policy beginning Winter I is as follows:
